Geschichte: Die neueren Straßennamen sind überwiegend zusammengesetzt, und als Suffix wurden oft -gade, -vej oder in jüngerer Zeit Allee und Boulevard verwendet. Strait ist fast vollständig aus dem Verkehr gezogen. Die Vornamen wurden auf unterschiedliche Weise gesucht, oft in Verbindung mit lokalen Besonderheiten: Jernbanegade, Gasværksvej, Museumsgade, aber diese Art der Benennung hat nicht genügend Substanz geliefert, um mit der schnellen Entwicklung der Städte Schritt zu halten. Insbesondere bei der Gründung ganz neuer Stadtviertel wurden lokale Besonderheiten vernachlässigt, und bereits in Nyboder finden wir eine systematische Benennung verschiedener Tiere: Krokodillegade, Elsdyrgade, Rævegade, Tigergade usw. Diese Verwendung von in Gruppen angeordneten Namen hat es einfacher gemacht zur Navigation in Großstädten und wurde später in großem Umfang eingesetzt. Im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert wurden meist Namen von Tieren und Pflanzen, Gütern, Königreichen und Begriffen verwendet, im 19. Jahrhundert auch in sehr großem Umfang Namen berühmter Persönlichkeiten, aber viele dieser Namen sind ohne echten Namen angegeben Verbindung zum Ort.

In jüngster Zeit besteht jedoch die Tendenz, an solchen Namen festzuhalten, die wirklich historische Autorität haben. In vielen Städten wurden sonst in Vergessenheit geratene Flurnamen wiederbelebt, Straßen nach Personen benannt, die für die jeweilige Stadt wichtig waren, und es scheint eine Tendenz zu geben, sich von den oft langen und komplexen Namen zu entfernen mit der eintönigen Straße und Straße. Namen werden jetzt wieder im kurzen und cleveren mittelalterlichen Stil gebildet (in Kopenhagen zum Beispiel im neuen Amagerbro Kvarter). Aber in früheren Zeiten der Menschheit wurden viele der alten Namen abgeschafft und durch weniger charakteristische neue Formationen ersetzt

Sneaky little devil has a mind of it's own...
Warning: This can opener has a mind of its own and may run away from you. Mine disappeared from my kitchen a few days after I bought it. One night it was sitting on the counter, the next morning it was just gone. After 3 weeks hoping it would turn up, I finally gave up and bought a slightly different style (the Joseph Joseph compact handleless style can opener) so that I'll have two choices in case it does ever reappear. At least I only paid $7. I'm all seriousness, I only used this for a week, but it seemed like a nice no-frills can opener that was definitely worh the very lowe price I paid for it. This was my first time buying a can opener of this style (single handle which cuts on the outside of the can's rim), but it was easy and intuitive for me to figure out how to use it. Just remember, when the lid gets stuck to the can opener, twist the handle in the opposite direction and it'll come right off. This is actually a nice intentional feature, but it can be frustrating at first if you aren't used to it. This style of can opener has some tradeoffs with the traditional two-handled opener. Cutting the outside rim of the can leads to a smoother edge on the can and lid, but can also lead to some of the liquid inside the can spilling out. Personally, I think that that's a worthy tradeoff for lower risk of cutting myself and bleeding all over my food, but neither option is perfect so think about which potential frustration you'd rather avoid before you buy, because as far as I know there is no can opener that perfectly solves both problems.
