You start by building a deck that reflects your Ranger's interests, personal history, and personality. Then, as you explore the open world and your story takes shape, expand your deck with upgraded gear, refined skills, and memories of your journey.

The story of Earthborne Rangers is presented as a branching campaign with a main story and numerous side stories. Here you can choose to follow the critical path or go your own way to discover the Valley's many fascinating characters, mysterious ruins and creatures, both familiar and strange.

Each play session represents one day in the Valley, and you start at the same location on the map where you rested the previous night. Your goal is to either complete one of your available missions or explore the open world. The session ends when you are forced to rest (due to fatigue or injury), or when you choose to rest for the night.

An individual gaming session is played in rounds, and those rounds consist of turns. On your turn, you perform one action: play a card from your hand or choose an action from a card on the table. Every action allows you to interact with the world thematically and narratively, and every time you take an action the world around you comes to life. Predators stalk their prey, rain falls from the sky, rocks tumble down the mountain to block your path, and much more.
