Hydnophytum is a genus of "ant plants" known for their unique symbiotic relationship with ants in the wild and their unusual, swollen base (caudex) that forms a maze-like network of internal chambers. These fascinating plants make for intriguing, low-maintenance houseplants that do not attract ants indoors. Light: Hydnophytum plants prefer bright, indirect or filtered light, mimicking their natural habitat high in the forest canopy. Direct, intense sunlight should be avoided as it can cause leaf scorch. They can also thrive under artificial lights. Watering: The plant's caudex stores water, so it is sensitive to overwatering and prone to rot. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Always water the soil or growing medium directly, taking care to avoid letting water pool on the caudex itself. Substrate: Use a well-draining, chunky mix, such as an orchid bark blend with perlite and peat or coconut husk, to mimic its natural epiphytic conditions. The caudex should primarily remain above the soil surface when potting. Temperature & Humidity: They thrive in warm temperatures, ideally between 60°F to 80°F (15°C to 26°C), and appreciate higher humidity levels. Placing the pot on a pebble tray with water can help increase ambient humidity. Fertilizer: Feed lightly with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength once a month during the spring and summer growing seasons. Toxicity: The plant is considered toxic to pets and humans if ingested. The berries produced by the plant also should not be eaten.

Powerful!
Format: Hardcover
The Girl in the Walls is mysterious, raw, and beautifully written. If you have any connection to autism, particularly how autism affects families, you will know how powerful this story truly is. Understanding how the autistic brain is designed, the beauty, the pain, and the family dynamics and genetics involved is so needed. I believe this story has the power to bring healing and understanding to it’s readers. Meg Eden Kuyatt is such a gifted writer. Her words brought tears, awe, and hope. Her poetic style and usage of font, space, and text is unique and inspiring. Meg’s artistic ability shines through on the page in a way that I’ve never seen until Good Different, and I think this book is even more captivating artistically.
