Six Questions Your Five Guys Burgers and Fries Franchise Business Plan Must Answer

We built this franchise unit business plan template in Microsoft Word based on our own research into the brand's operating model and unit economics. All six chapters are pre-populated with data specific to opening and running a single franchise location, projecting first-year revenue of $2.7 million and a payback period of just 2 years. The entire document is fully editable, allowing you to fine-tune the plan to your exact location and financial situation.

The opportunity is to open a high-volume, fast-casual franchise unit in a prime real estate location, capitalizing on a premium brand identity known for quality and customization. The business model targets an underserved segment of health-conscious and time-sensitive customers by combining a 'fresh, never-frozen' value proposition with efficient order-ahead and delivery channels.

Key Opportunity Drivers

  • Premium brand reputation for quality and fresh ingredients.
  • High-traffic location with strong demographic alignment.

The core value proposition is radical customization-offering 15 free toppings-and a commitment to quality, with 'never-frozen' beef and locally sourced potatoes. This appeals directly to customers seeking a premium, transparent fast-casual experience.

Market Analysis: Who are the local customers?

The primary customer segments are young professionals, local families, and health-conscious foodies in a high-density urban district. These customers value quality ingredients, customization, and convenience. The restaurant franchise site selection strategy focuses on a location with heavy foot traffic from nearby tech offices, museums, and residential areas, minimizing direct competition from other premium burger concepts.

Target Customer Segments

  • Local families looking for a reliable, family-friendly meal.
  • Health-conscious consumers attracted to ingredient transparency.
[dynamic_pic11]

Marketing & Sales Plan: How will the unit attract customers?

Customer acquisition will blend the franchisor's national brand marketing with hyper-local tactics. The plan focuses on community engagement with nearby attractions, targeted social media campaigns highlighting the 15 free toppings and fresh ingredients, and optimizing for high-volume digital sales through a streamlined pickup window for delivery apps and order-ahead customers.

Local Marketing Channels

  • Hyper-targeted social media to reach local tech and fitness communities.
  • A dedicated pickup window to maximize throughput for digital orders.
  • Community partnerships to establish the unit as a local favorite.
[dynamic_pic12]

Management & Organization: Who will run the business?

The unit will be run by an experienced Store Manager and an Assistant Manager, overseeing a team of Shift Leads, Grill Cooks, Fry Cooks, and Front Crew. The staffing plan is designed for high-volume throughput, with a total of 14 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees in the first year. This structure ensures consistent execution of brand standards and service speed during peak hours.

Key Operational Roles

  • Store Manager responsible for all unit operations and P&L.
  • Dedicated cook and front-of-house teams to maintain speed.
  • Staffing levels that scale with projected revenue growth.
[dynamic_pic13]

Financial Plan: What is the financial case for the unit?

The financial plan requires an initial investment of approximately $985,000 for the franchise fee, leasehold improvements, and equipment. The unit is projected to generate $2.7 million in revenue in its first year, reaching breakeven in just 3 months. With a 6% royalty and 2% marketing fee, the model still projects a 2-year payback period, driven by strong unit-level sales and disciplined cost management.

Financial Highlights

  • Projected to reach profitability within the first quarter of operations.
  • Strong revenue growth, scaling to over $5.25 million by Year 5.
  • A rapid 2-year payback on the initial capital investment.

The history is unpleasant and therefore worth knowing.
It's a wonderfully enlightening history of how European explorers visited, settled in, conquered, and exploited other continents with unparalleled cruelty in the name of power, greed, and their "loving" religion that brought them misery, exploitation and, all too often, abject slavery.

Wonderful History Lessons
I ordered this book to use for a college paper I was writing and found it fascinating. I enjoyed the content and learned much from it. The history is written in a manner that for those people that either don't read much or don't like to read (yes, there are a few people out there), it will draw you in and make you question the history lessons we suffered through in high school.

Rediscovering America
This is an eye-opening, scholarly rebuttal to common perceptions about native American society before and after the European invasion. Ronald Wright makes no secret of his bias in favor of the people who were here first; in fact, he enhances the impact of what for many will be new information by presenting this extraordinary history from the point of view of the conquered. He also makes clear how large a part of the conquest was due to immune system rather than military deficiencies: if smallpox and other diseases had not done killed most of the native population, the facts recounted here suggest that history, particularly in South America, may have evolved quite differently. In undertaking the massive task of recounting the invasion of all of the Americas, some selectivity is inevitable. Wright has chosen to focus on the story of five distinct native groups: Aztec, Maya, Inca, Cherokee and Iroquois. He then arbitrarily subdivides the story into three consecutive time periods: Conquest, Resistance and Rebirth. After the physical and political annihilation recounted in the first two sections, the title of the third may seem overly optimistic, particularly for the Guatemalan Maya. However, the concluding tone is more conciliatory and hopeful than mournful, particularly in the Afterword that updates matters to 2005, 13 years after the original publication date. The astounding amount of research involved in producing this admittedly selective overview is well-indexed and annotated. My only quibble is that Wright, obviously an expert in the field of native culture, sometimes borders on the compulsive in matters of linguistic authenticity. I did not buy this book to learn ancient native languages, let alone their pronunciation, and at times I found the inclusion of such trivia distracted from rather than enhanced the otherwise convincing scholarship. This obsession with accuracy is commendable, but after getting it out of his system in the Author's note, his amazing narrative would have been no less compelling if he stuck to the language of his contemporary audience. Also, for an author who has settled in British Columbia, it is strangely disappointing that the rich history of the Pacific Northwest coastal natives was not among those he chose to examine. I had read Charles Mann's "1491" prior to this book and found it primed my interest in the subject; both are excellent introductions to the reality of pre-Columbian American societies, but Stolen Continents provides more of a historical context for what has become of them.
