Alumina Calcined 300#Calcined alumina has a very high melting point, and is widely used in the manufacture of refractory materials. For studio potters, it may be used in glazes to reduce crawling, prevent crystallization, and broaden the firing range. In clay bodies it can be added as an aggregate in place of silica, which may reduce shrinkage and warping during firing, lower thermal expansion, and increase the durability and whiteness of the body.
