The Wilson Cloud Chamber Expansion Type, without sources, utilizes a vacuum pump to draw a partial vacuum, allowing for super saturation of the air with alcohol vapor. This classical design utilizes a pad soaked in alcohol to initiate the process.
The chamber utilizes an Alpha 'pin source' to ionize air particles along its path. As the ionized particles condense alcohol vapor, miniature foggy tracks are displayed inside the chamber, revealing the path of the Alpha particles. A light source, such as a microscope lamp, is necessary to illuminate the cell, and an Alpha material 'pin source' is also required.
Kit Includes:
- Base assembly with chamber sealed and clamped by 3x screws
- Rod to support an Alpha point source through the side of the cell
- Hand operated “one pull” vacuum pump with hose
- Small squeeze bottle to hold a small amount radioactive powder, with chamois filter disc and complete with flexible tubing and Mohr clip
- Base support rod, with knurled fixing screw permits the cloud chamber to be supported up from the table level for better viewing.
- Holder for absorbers and for radioactive sources behind the absorber
- Puffer bottle
- Hose and spring clip
- Vacuum pump
- Support rod for lamp illumination
