Sharp Dressed Man Bearded Iris is a herbaceous semi-evergreen perennial with no bulb, spreading with rhizomes instead and forming a clumping habit.  Its long sword-like foliage fans upwards and sturdy stalks that hold the flower heads grow from the center of the plant.  The large, highly fragrant ruffled flowers have violet standards with orange beards and near black falls bloom from mid spring to late spring.  Prefers partial sun and rich, moist well-drained soils.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS:  Low Maintenance.  Water regularly, then occasionally once established.  Can cut back any dying foliage after flowering.  Some major issues can be soft root, crown rot, and leaf spot. Watch for molting and remove any affected leaves.  Avoid overcrowding and too much shade to lessen the chance of these issues.

LANDSCAPE USES:  Accents or Group Plantings, Borders, Woodland Gardens, Water Gardens, Ponds and Streams, Foundation Plantings, and Containers.

Getting the kids' backpacks ready usually means the dog gets ignored for a bit and starts pacing. I turn this ball on and toss it out the back door.
