Gum Ammoniac or Ammoniacum, or Ammoniac of Persia is a gum resin derived from the herbaceous plant Ferula ammoniacum ,a member of the Apiaceae or carrot family. The genus Ferula also includes two other well-known members; one being Ferula assa-foetida or Asafoetida and the other being Ferula gummosa or Galbanum. All three members of the genus are pungent and stimulating. Regarding fragrance, Gum Ammoniac falls somewhere between Asafoetida and Galbanum. It has the earthy pungency of asafoetita and hints of the chypric green quality of Galbanum. Gum Ammoniac includes within it a fragrant x-factor, a je ne sais quoi that is not unpleasant. I may not choose to use Gum Ammoniac as a single note burn, but blended judiciously into an incense blend it will give it an animated vibrancy that will keep people wondering what is underscoring the over all fragrance. A little will go a long way.

This gum resin could be tinctured and added to an incense mixture or one may freeze the gum and grind it in a mortar and pestle. If you choose to use the mortar and pestle, I would use one that is made of brass or stainless as marble and soapstone may pick up that pungency.

Our Gum Ammoniac is sourced from Afghanistan and has the texture of candy; sticky and soft. It’s fresh and pungent.

Dr. G.
Format: Paperback
Jesse Graves (a.k.a. "Dr. G.") is one of my professors at East Tennessee State University. Not only is he a great teacher, he is a very talented poet. I would recommend his work to anyone! Anyone that does not like his work probably just failed his class. :p

Incredibly Prescient -- Touches On The Major Trends Of Our Times
Format: Hardcover
I was blown away by the fact that the author started writing this book a couple of years ago, before artificial intelligence was in the news, and before the topic and trend of loneliness became so prevalent. The clairvoyance is uncanny and the storyline, while fictional, is totally believable given what's going on in our world today. This is why the novel almost reads like nonfiction, but the plotline carries you forward like a fictional thriller. I audibly gasped, "Holy crap" during the plot twist at the end of the book. Truly a work of art, there is no doubt that this will be adapted for either a movie or a series.

Deeply human, yet visionary
Format: Kindle
This book takes a thoughtful approach to the notion of loneliness in the faces of AI and the many robotic companions already in development or on the market.

Compelling story, beautifully written
Format: Kindle
Loneliness & Company was a fantastic read. In a truly novel take and an incredibly fun read, Charlee Dyroff confronts both the growing endemic of loneliness and the looming threat of AI, pushing us subtly to think deeply and thoughtfully about the implications of both. More than that though, Loneliness & Company is beautifully written, populated by great characters and is driven forward with a compelling, narrative. Its the first book in a very long while that I couldn't wait to get back to. Definitely would give this my strongest recommendation.

3.5
Format: Hardcover
This is a smart book, an interesting book but it was hard for me to read as the style was more technical/detached than i like. It worked for the story but not for the kind of reader I am. It is worth the read though despite this 3.5
