Six Questions Your HoneyBaked Ham Franchise Financial Model Must Answer

We built this retail franchise business plan tool using researched data to help with estimating profitability for a new franchise location. The model is pre-populated with a Year 1 revenue target of $1,425,000 and an EBITDA of $494,000, which are fully editable to match your specific market. This is defintely the best financial model for small retail franchise owners looking for a data-driven start.

When does the unit turn a profit?

This unit is projected to reach profitability in Year 1, with a specific break-even date of April 2026. After accounting for food costs, a 6% royalty, and a 4.25% marketing fee, the model shows positive net income within the first four months of operation. Speed to profit is the ultimate safety net.

Profitability Levers

  • Maximize high-margin catering orders
  • Minimize food waste in glazed hams
  • Upsell sides to every retail customer
[dynamic_pic9]

How much capital is required?

You will need a total initial investment of $745,000 to launch this unit, which covers everything from the $15,000 franchise fee to kitchen equipment and leasehold improvements. This figure represents the total franchise investment projections required before the store opens its doors. Capital is fuel; don't run out before the first hill.

Major Capital Uses

  • Leasehold Improvements: $350,000
  • Kitchen Equipment: $120,000
  • Refrigeration Units: $80,000
[dynamic_pic10]

What is the expected return?

Investors can expect an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 5.54% and a Return on Equity (ROE) of 2.42 based on these projections. The model calculates a 3-year payback period, which is a key metric in this Excel template for franchise investment return. A three-year payback is a solid win in this sector.

Investment Metrics

  • Internal Rate of Return: 5.54%
  • Payback Period: 3 Years
  • Return on Equity: 2.42
[dynamic_pic11]

Where is the break-even point?

The unit hits its monthly break-even point just 4 months after launch, provided it meets the volume targets for glazed hams and catering. The franchise unit operational expense spreadsheet shows that managing the $14,000 monthly rent is the biggest hurdle to clearing fixed costs. Volume is the engine that clears the break-even hurdle.

Break-even Strategies

  • Aggressive B2B catering outreach
  • Strict deli staff labor scheduling
  • Optimizing inventory for peak holidays
[dynamic_pic12]

What is the cash runway?

The lowest cash point occurs in July 2026 with a balance of $658,000, suggesting you have a significant buffer if you fund the full startup cost upfront. Financial planning for corporate catering franchise units requires watching this dip closely during the initial ramp-up. Cash is oxygen, and your lowest point is your highest risk.

Cash Protection Actions

  • Phase leasehold improvement payments
  • Negotiate 30-day terms with vendors
  • Delay hiring the catering coordinator
[dynamic_pic13]

How do scenarios impact results?

Using the franchise business plan financial projections template, you can see how a 10% drop in revenue pushes the payback period past year four. Conversely, hitting the high-growth scenario for corporate gifting can significantly boost the Year 1 EBITDA of $494,000. Planning for the worst makes the best case possible.

High-Case Drivers

  • Local real estate partnership leads
  • High-volume corporate gift card sales
  • Increased concierge sales productivity

Good But
Format: Kindle
A little disjointed at times, at least to me. This was about Lila (omega woman) and Harrison, Wesley and River (alpha males). The main characters were likeable, as was Lila's friend, Wendy. Lila finally wised up and left the alpha she had been with for a couple of years because he was an a-hole, who treated and used her horribly. She knew some, if not all, of the guys from college if I remember correctly. The guys had been looking for an omega to bond with for some time. When Lila saw Harrison again, the other two guys were out on a date with another omega but Harrison refused to go because he didn't like her. He saw Lila again and knew she was the omega they had been searching for. However, it wasn't easy for them to convince Lila of that because of the way her ex-alpha treated her. The sex was hot. There was one inconsistency. I could almost swear that when Lila first saw Harrison again, she told her best friend, Wendy, that Harrison was the lead for his pack. Then later on when she's spending time with River, she thinks he is the pack's lead. Maybe I read something incorrectly. All in all, a good story.

Sweet read
Format: Kindle
A sweet steamy read of an omega who finds her worth and finds the guys that are willing to show her. The story had lovable characters with low angst and a HEA.

Short and sweet
Format: Kindle
Beautifully written, I was worried when it was labelled as a novella at the start, really used to those missing info and jumping forward to complete the story or not having complete character growth, not to worry! Author gave enough time to fall in love (and hate) with everyone, can't wait to read Wendy's story I feel like she will be the badass we all love!

Likeable characters, but only 75% complete story
Format: Kindle
I really liked the characters introduced, but the author didn’t fully conceptualize everything. We know Lila works long hours, but despite being a college graduate we never learn anything about what she does, where she works, how much she gets paid, etc. For an omega who seemed to be able to support herself, that seemed an unusual oversight. We learn absolutely nothing about what she wants in life, either. Is she just surviving the post-college life struggle or working up to her dream job? Fiona the flamingo had more detail than some of the main characters, but she was 10/10 as good as Wendy for a side character. — spoilers ahead —- Separately, some of the plot details were contradictory, or just missing. On one page Lila and Larry were together for 18 months, on another it was 4 years. When did she even move in with him? What did she do while he was gaming? How long were she and Wendy friends for Lila to trust her like that but not know much about her? And why didn’t Lila’s alphas sue Larry to reduce Lila’s debt? Shopping seemed a weird choice pamper her without knowing more about Lila’s debt and plans to reduce it. And her alphas never even ask anything about her job, but she’s The One. Such a frustrating relationship plot hole. We never even learn anything about the alphas’ families or what they want in life either. I wish the author had written about 30 more pages fleshing out the details and showing how the alphas were just as in love with Lila’s personality as they were with her scent and body. Loved the concept, but I still feel like I read 3/4 of a book.
