Benefits

Maintaining your pet's oral and dental health is crucial. They can’t tell us when they’re in discomfort, so it's essential to regularly examine their gums and teeth. Chewing on Zeal® Pet Treats aids in the removal of plaque and tartar. Additionally, brushing your pet’s teeth regularly is a wise practice!

Treats for training sessions: Treats serve as an effective tool during training, as they help keep your pet focused on you and the learning experience, regardless of their age. For training purposes, it’s best to use small, easily swallowed treats that require minimal chewing, allowing you to reward behaviors quickly and frequently. Ideal training treats are relatively soft and about the size of a pea. Pets are generally less concerned about the size of the treat, and more impressed by the quantity. Larger treats work well for rewarding good behavior, as your pet has to pause, chew, and take their time enjoying it.

How to use dog treats effectively: The best way to utilize treats is to reinforce a calm and submissive mindset. Avoid using treats to reward an overly excited or stimulated state. Always allow your pet to smell the treat first, but hold it away from them and wait. Remember, pets, especially dogs, can detect scents from over 5 meters away, so there’s no need to place the treat directly under their nose. Once they catch the scent, dogs may initially bounce around or jump on you. If this occurs, communicate your disapproval through your demeanor and body language; your patience as an owner will yield a well-behaved pet. They'll learn that a cool and calm approach leads to results, sitting and waiting while looking at you in quiet anticipation. At the moment of calm, reward them with the treat. Avoid using treats to reinforce an excited pet; instead, use them to encourage a calm, submissive state.

Feeding Guidelines

Don't over-treat ~ While it may be tempting to indulge your furry friend when they beg for more, it’s important to moderate treat intake. Treats are designed to supplement your pet’s diet. Just like with us, too many treats can lead to weight gain and disrupt the balance of their diet, which must be complete and nutritious to keep them healthy. Ideally, treats should not exceed 10% of your pet’s daily caloric needs, so adjust regular meal portions accordingly to prevent weight gain, keeping track of their treat consumption during training sessions each day. This rule also applies to treats given as general rewards for good behavior. Neglecting this can lead to gradual weight gain, which can harm your pet's health.

Treat Wise ~ We always recommend supervising your pet while they enjoy treats, especially when trying something new. Some dogs (though not commonly cats) can be overly enthusiastic with tasty bites and may not chew properly, leading to potential choking hazards.

When to give treats to your pet ~ The best time to offer treats is between meals, not immediately before or after feeding. Select a treat that your pet will relish. If you're using treats as a training incentive, they won't be as effective right after your pet has just eaten a full meal.

What types of treats are suitable for your breed, size, and age of dog or cat?
We suggest supervising your pet while they enjoy treats, especially when introducing a new one. Many dogs tend to gulp down treats without chewing, so keep an eye on them regardless of their size and age until you're confident they can handle them safely. Cats typically gnaw on treats instead of consuming them quickly. Smaller dogs may find shanks or bones a bit large, while larger dogs might swallow medium-sized harder treats without chewing. Older pets with dental issues may require softer chews, so it’s essential to consider your pet’s size and eating habits.

Storage: Keep in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight. Ensure the pouch is zip-locked for maximum freshness. If purchasing bulk bags, store the unused product in an airtight container for optimal freshness and hygiene.

Maybe not for super aggressive chewers
Color: A Violet, Size: For Larege Dogs, Color: A Violet, Size: For Larege Dogs
I had high hopes for this toy, I was so excited about it. I have aggressive chewers, two Malinois/Dutch Shepard mixes and a Pit. The Shepard's chewed pieces off of it in literally 5 minutes. At the ends there is a small lip and that's where they started chewing pieces off. I had ordered a second one before I gave them this one (early Christmas present) because when I received it I noticed it felt very sturdy and durable. They do like it so since they already chewed this one I'm going to see if I can shave that lip off and maybe they won't get anymore pieces off. That'll decide if I return the one that arrives tomorrow. Maybe not good for super aggressive chewers. It's very thick and seems well made. Might just be better for other dogs.

Fantastic for rough chewing
Color: Bule 0, Size: For Larege Dogs
Our big boy is rough with his toys and always seems to disintegrate his toys in seconds. I had seen this with hoping this will be the toy he doesn’t destroy. On day 2 now with the toy and he’s obsessed, even feel asleep with the toy in his mouth and still in one piece. Highly recommended for tough chewers.

Good but not for my dog
Color: A Red, Size: For Larege Dogs
Dog loves it but already falling apart. Can't seem to find a truly safe dog toy that won't come apart with my aggressive chewer. Had to toss it before pieces got ingested. But great toy in the begining. Just not safe for pit/staff type dog that destroy and chew.

Put your aggressive Chewer dog to the test!
Color: A Red, Size: For Larege Dogs
A very tough toy to stand up to my aggressive chewer lab! It's a great value! The squeak is not annoying, and she's got to clamp down hard on it. It's a nice throw toy! It bounces once or twice but it still brings out the pup in our Dog! Not too small a nice size for a Lab or retriever

A Hardy Toy for Chewers
Color: Bule Octopus, Size: For Larege Dogs, Color: Bule Octopus, Size: For Larege Dogs
I must say I was very surprised with the durability of this toy. We've had it for 3 days and not one puncture hole. My rescue is a destroy chewer that doesn't care for Hardy chew toys unless it squeaks. While the squeaker isn't the best, he still loves it. We put peanut butter in the grooves for him and he goes to town. Will purchase again should he ever destroys it, worth the price!
