Sir Baldwin de Furnshill, Keeper of the King’s Peace, and his companion Simon Puttock arrive in Exeter carrying grim news of the escaped former king. They are soon drawn into a far darker crime when the body of a young maid is found brutally murdered within the city walls. With the gates sealed, the killer must still be hiding among Exeter’s citizens. As Baldwin investigates, he uncovers a web of secrets in a city where no one is quite what they seem.
