Fitting and handling

Store sheets flat in a dry indoor space before use, allowing them to acclimatise to room temperature for at least 24 hours to minimise any movement after fixing. MR MDF cuts cleanly with a fine-tooth saw blade and machines well for routed profiles; always seal all cut edges with a suitable primer or MDF sealant before fitting, as edges remain the most vulnerable point to moisture ingress. Fix with screws into pre-drilled and countersunk holes, or use a PVA-based adhesive for panel bonding, and apply two coats of a water-based or oil-based paint for a durable, washable finish.

Is moisture resistant MDF the same as waterproof MDF?

No. MR MDF is formulated to resist swelling and moisture absorption better than standard MDF, but it is not waterproof. It is suitable for humid internal areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, but should not be used in direct contact with standing water or in external applications.
