Op plaat is Thom Yorke nooit een warme persoonlijkheid geweest. Sinds een jaar of zes is 'koelbloedig' misschien zelfs wel het beste werk om in ieder geval de muziek onder zijn eigen naam te omschrijven. De samenwerking van de Radiohead-frontman met technoproducer Mark Pritchard bereikt daarin een nieuw summum. Tall Tales is nadrukkelijk een plaat van Pritchard mét Yorke, niet andersom. Eerstgenoemde plaveit een pad gemaakt van ijskoude beats, lange stroken unheimische ambient, soms wat kille strijkers of boze geesten uit een doosje. Yorke dwaalt er vervolgens vocaal overheen, soms in een nauwelijks verstaanbare kopstem à la Suspiria, soms met een nieuw soort staccato sprechgesang. Dat het je allereerst onberoerd laat is misschien wel de bedoeling, maar net als op 'Dawn Chorus', een paar jaar geleden, verschuift er binnenin vanalles. Fysiek verschenen met een boekwerk om elke bladzijde van in te lijsten.
