De wijn : Deze Pinot Noir-wijn bestaat hier al sinds de 15e eeuw. 

Château d'Arlay wordt beschouwd als een van de beste terroirs van rode wijn in de Jura. Deze wijn dankt zijn reputatie aan zijn frisse stijl, met een pittig en merkwaardig mineraal karakter. Gerijpt in grote gebruikte vaten om de fijne en strakke tannines te verzachten. Aroma's van wilde rode vruchten, zwarte bes, kreupelhout, groene peper, grafiet, exotisch hout. Het kan minimum 10 jaar bewaard worden. Deze Pinot Noir kan gerust naast een Grand Cru van Bourgogne staan.

Serveertip 1 : Karafferen  - Zeker enkele uren op voorhand karafferen ! Door de wijn veel lucht te geven worden de tannines versneld zachter. Karafferen gaat zo: schenk de wijn over in een ruime karaf zodat de wijn goed in contact komt met zuurstof. De aroma's komen zo mooi 'los' en de wijn 'geeft' zich beter.

Gelegen in het hart van de AOC Côtes du Jura, is de "wijngaard" van Château d'Arlay 24 hectare in één stuk gelegen op het zuiden. Beschut tegen de noordenwind door het kasteel, profiteert het van een terroir aangepast aan lokale druivensoorten: bovenaan kalksteenpuin voor Pinot Noir en Trousseau, dan de mergelhellingen beter geschikt voor Poulsard, Chardonnay en Savagnin.

Château d'Arlay dankt zijn bekendheid aan traditionele vinificatie en lange rijping in vaten, en biedt een stijl vol frisheid, gecombineerd met een verbazingwekkend verouderingspotentieel. Dit leverde het op om te worden beschouwd als een grand cru van Jura en wijnen van Frankrijk.

1000-jarig familiedomein

Het Château d'Arlay is steeds door één adelijke familie gerund die zich tot taak hebben gesteld wijnen van traditie en rijping te produceren, waarbij de tonen van het land met elegantie worden uitgedrukt. Het landgoed staat bekend als het oudste wijnbouwkasteel van Frankrijk: dit feit wordt sinds 1070 bevestigd door archieven die in het kasteel worden bewaard. Daarom wordt het vaak aangehaald als een "grand cru" van de Jura, met een sterk kwaliteitsimago zowel in Frankrijk als in het buitenland, versterkt door een unieke fles-aankleding, onveranderd sinds 1917. Deze filosofie is niet vreemd aan de vele citaten in de pers, de wijngidsen en boeken over de beste wijnen ter wereld, en aan onze aanwezigheid in de beste kelders en bij de grootste restauranthouders ter wereld.

Het terroir van Château d'Arlay dankt zijn bekendheid aan de kenmerken van de ondergrond (Sinemurian, grijze mergel van Lias Inférieur) in combinatie met een zuidelijke blootstelling, ongebruikelijk in de regio. Door deze kenmerkende natuurlijke omstandigheden en door de lange praktijk van wijn in Arlay zijn in de loop van de tijd typische cuvées op Château d'Arlay geboren. Ze komen overeen met de beste uitdrukking van ons terroir, waaraan we prioriteit geven boven elk ander idee.

Vinificatie op het kasteel : een voorouderlijke traditie : De gemiddelde productie is bijna 90.000 flessen. Het verfijnen en filtreren van de wijnen is beperkt tot het strikt noodzakelijke. Volgens de traditie en met generaties ervaring worden onze druivenmengsels gemaakt van de oogst, en niet van afzonderlijk gevinifieerde wijnen en vervolgens gemengd, zoals vaak in de Jura wordt gedaan.

Onze wijnen rijpen bijna vier jaar in oude vaten, altijd bijgevuld, inclusief de witte wijn, wat veel langer is dan de meeste wijnboeren in de Jura. Deze praktijk beantwoordt aan onze wens om in elke wijn naar aromatische complexiteit en elegantie te zoeken, en waarbij de persoonlijkheid van de vintage volledig tot uiting komt.

Sweet Romance
Format: Paperback
This was a sweet love story between two women who are both dealing with some baggage, and figuring out what moving forward looks like. I enjoyed both of the characters and their chemistry. Also really enjoyed the supporting characters, including the animals. Listening to the audiobook, there were some moments where I had to stop and figure out which character was narrating because the voices didn’t sound distinct enough. This only happened a few times, and probably wouldn’t have occurred if I’d been reading the physical copy. Overall, a sweet and enjoyable romance with some depth and great side characters.

Adorable!
Format: Paperback
This book was completely adorable. I loved Thea and Courtney’s story, and the background from the unlikely animal friends to Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice references. Whilst a little turbulent at times with traumatic backstories, I’m glad they got their GHEA, and I loved their journey, and secondary and tertiary characters along the way. It made me smile when I was in a place of exhaustion, so I really loved it.

Not great but not bad!
Format: Audiobook
I loved the audio and I'm so glad there were two narrators! I really loved the deconstruction rep in this book. It spoke to me in ways that felt real and authentic. I also liked the way the migraine/chronic illness was handled as well. The reason this is a 3 star to me is that I can't remember the characters names and I just finished this book. The first 50% was pretty forgettable. It was hard for me to get into that first half. The second half however, I really enjoyed! Courtney and Thea (yes I did just have to look up their names) could have used more fleshing out. Courtney's ex's threats felt like a nothing burger in the end and Courtney's running also didn't hit quite like I wish it had. The last 50% things finally get moving. These characters finally start sharing with each other and being open and vulnerable but there is still a big secret that get revealed that throws a wrench into the whole thing. Overall I did enjoy it!

Four and a half stars for this sapphic romance
Format: Paperback
I’m giving this book four and a half stars. There was a lot I really loved about it. The banter between the main characters is lovely, and there were several scenes that are just adorable. They’re complex characters though with their flaws and histories. They have depth. And how they react in a situation isn’t how you might react, but it’s right for that character. It felt truthful and in many ways relatable. I’ve got enough religious trauma that I can definitely relate, and although I’ve never been a catholic, I have what I think of as catholic guilt…in that I feel guilty for cutting my family out of my life despite the death threats, hateful comments, and constant hit my self esteem and mental health takes. I can even understand hiding physical health issues, because people definitely do treat you differently, also there’s trauma that goes back there too. I loved the play of the word stars used in the title, and how it fits both main characters so well. It’s super clever. I know some people were disappointed at this story, and I have to say that it left me going into the book feeling down about it, but instead I really enjoyed it (minus the breakup/not breakup). The ending was incredibly satisfying for me.
