De Harrier GR9A straaljager werd in oktober 2006 in dienst gesteld in het Verenigd Koninkrijk. De GR9A was een geüpdatete en verbeterde versie van de Harrier GR7. Het betekende een flinke boost in vliegeigenschappen en aanvalsmogelijkheden met verbeterde wapens.
