Hulst Blue Prince

De Latijnse naam van de hulst Blue Prince luidt Ilex x meserveae 'Blue Prince'. De bladeren van deze inheemse hulstsoort zijn blauwgroen, waardoor je de plant misschien ook wel kent als de blauwe hulst. De hulst Blue Prince gedijt goed in ons klimaat. Het is een hulst struik die geschikt is om hagen tot ongeveer 2 meter hoog te creëren.

Ilex meserveae 'Blue Prince': mannelijke hulst haag zonder besjes

Gezien de naamgeving is het geen verrassing dat de hulst Blue Prince een mannelijke hulstsoort is. Dit houdt in dat deze hulst struik geen besjes draagt. De besjes zijn giftig, dus zeker als je kleine kinderen of huisdieren hebt, is de keuze voor een haag zonder besjes snel gemaakt. De Blue Prince is de bestuiver van de hulst Blue Maid, een vrouwelijke hulstsoort waaraan wel rode besjes groeien. Het is erg leuk om deze twee soorten te combineren in de tuin. Dit zorgt ervoor dat de Ilex meserveae 'Blue Maid' struik extra veel bessen produceert.

Winterharde en wintergroene hulst struik

De hulst Blue Prince behoort tot de groenblijvende haagplanten. Net als alle andere hulstsoorten winterhard en dus prima opgewassen tegen sneeuw en lage temperaturen. Je doet de struik een plezier met een plekje in de zon of schaduw. Planten doe je beter niet in een droge of natte bodem. Daarvoor zijn de hulst Alaska en de gewone hulst beter geschikt. Verder is de haagplant erg sterk en kan uitstekend tegen een stootje. Voor degene die de stoot uitdeelt is het niet zo fijn. De Ilex meserveae struik heeft namelijk stekelige bladeren en is daardoor in haagvorm erg geschikt om inbrekers of ander gespuis uit jouw tuin weg te houden.

De Ilex meserveae 'Blue Prince' snoeien

Hoe moet je de Ilex meserveae 'Blue Prince' snoeien? Een snoeibeurt verdraagt de hulsthaag prima, zelfs tot op het kale hout. Voor jezelf is het wel fijn om stevige handschoenen te dragen. Doe je dat niet, dan zal je merken dat je behoorlijk wat schrammen op kunt lopen van de stekelige bladranden. De jaarlijkse groeisnelheid van deze hulst struik bedraagt 15 tot 30 centimeter en eenmaal per jaar snoeien is voldoende. Lees ook eens onze tips onder de juiste plantgrootte voor haagplanten kiezen. Het kan namelijk even duren voordat kleine haagplanten van de hulst Blue Maid samen een ondoordringbare haag vormen.

I knew going in that my expectations shouldn't be very high because my car is a first generation 2010 Kia Soul. So its old with 16 plus years of yellowing oxidation and some abrasion. My driver side(left) headlight was horrible but my passenger side(right) wasn't too shabby and didn't require as much care. This would have turned out better if I had power drill attachments of the same sanding grit to do this. My arm is going to be really sore come Sunday. 😆 It wasn't too hard to follow the instructions as they were very simple for the application process. I don't know about the 2 years for it lasting, but for now, its durable. Once I drive at night, I'll be able to But all in all, it worked for me and its better than before I tackled it. All in all it looks good, I feel like I'll have a better beam when night 🌙 driving.

Let this restoration kit light up your life

I have a car that is 24 years old and is my daily driver.  Understandably, the headlight lenses have deteriorated to the point where I was using my brights exclusively at night yet never being flashed to turn them down.  I got quotes between 60-80 dollars per headlight for restoration which I just wasn't willing to pay so I decided on this kit to try restoring them myself.  I read reviews before I ever make a decision on a product and noticed many reviewers of other products stated that this product works better so I went ahead and purchased it.  Man, am I glad I did!!!   The kit arrived late this afternoon, I opened it, READ AND FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS and within 1 1/2 hours had turned a travesty into a triumph.  I started by taping around both lights with 1 inch blue painters tape to protect the paint around the lights.  The kit comes with everything necessary to remove most moderate deterioration but be sure to purchase one that corresponds with your actual situation.  I believe my lenses were far beyond "moderate" but with some heavy elbow grease, the correct use of both supplied sanding disks and my hose set on "mist" I was able to sand off years of damage leaving behind a smooth, albeit opaque surface.  After making sure everything was totally dry using both towels and my leaf blower, I was ready for the Magic!!!  I opened the first clearcoat package (while wearing the provided glove) and lightly but steadily applied the liquid with the supplied towelette and the required 50% overlapping passes.  The opaque lenses instantly turned clear upon contact with the clearcoat.  After waiting around 25 minutes to be sure the lenses were completely dry I opened the second package of clearcoat and applied it in the same manner as the first.  I had no misses or problems with my first coat but for those who do...NOW is the time to make corrections, NOT during the first coat process.  Leave things to dry for around an hour and you are done. The end result?  AWESOME, INCREDIBLE, UNBELIEVABLE...shall I go on???  Not necessary, but I can say I am thrilled with the outcome.  My wife said the lights look new and I agree, there is a night and day difference between before and after. Only time will tell how long the restoration lasts but for now I am very very happy with the results I got from this 3M product.  I highly recommend it to anybody who can read, understand and follow the instructions.  5 stars all the way on this one!!!
