Throwing back to one of Fender's hidden treasures, we have the Fender '62 Super Amp. Capturing a specific moment in Fender's timeline where Fender heat met Fender clean, this unique amplifier is heaven-sent for the most discerning history buffs out there.
In the early '60s, Fender transitioned from their raw tweed '50s-era amplifiers to the sparkling cleans of their "black panel" amps. Essentially marking an in-between at the intersection of Fender black panel cleans and tweed heat, this Fender American Vintage series "brown panel" amplifier offers a versatility you might not expect from a vintage-inspired amp of this flavor. Originally the first of Fender's "brown panel" amplifiers, today's '62 Super Amp has a warm and woody sound when subdued and sweetly broken up when cranked. The amp effectively balances so much of what you'd associate with vintage Fender amps – clean or otherwise.
Onboard, two 6L6 output tubes and six 12AX7 preamp tubes align with a 5AR4 rectifier tube play through two Celestion Custom Design speakers. These ten-inch speakers harness all the sonic versatility of the amp splendidly for achieving the right sound at any volume. Alongside the tube-born power behind this amplifier, a phase-shifting harmonic tremolo appears onboard for introducing some unique effect flavor all on its own.
As a model all its own from a time bygone, the Fender '62 Super Amp is a wondrous model to capture a unique moment in time.
