The spheres are then inserted in a cell formed by two charged plates. When the voltage between the plates is reversed, the particles are drawn to one plate or the other.
A. Without Power Supply
The rubber hose charges the particles and they are then placed between two charged plates in a cell. By reversing the voltage between the plates, the particles are drawn to one side or the other. A small telescope with a graticule is used to observe their motion. The calculation of the charge on a single electron can be determined by measuring the potential of the cell plates and plotting the velocities of the spheres. External power sources need to be connected.
Includes:
- Sockets for connecting to 12V.AC / DC at 3A for illuminator
- Sockets for connecting a high voltage DC power supply
- Knob to adjust cell voltage from 0-300V.DC
- Switch to reverse voltage polarity
- Sockets for a student bench meter or multimeter
B. With Power Supply
Using a rubber hose, a static charge is induced upon the spheres before they are introduced into a charged plate cell. By reversing the voltage between the plates, the particles are attracted to one or the other. The movement of the spheres can be observed through a small telescope with a graticule, and the built-in power sources allow for easy measurement of the charge on a single electron by plotting their velocities.
Includes:
- Switch to reverse the polarity on the cell
- Knob to adjust the cell voltage from 0-300V.DC
- Sockets for a student bench meter or multimeter
