Sweet Orange Yerba Mate Tea
Sweet Orange Yerba Mate, from Brazil, combines green and roasted yerba mate with licorice, orange peels, and blossoms. Also, you will notice a slightly smoky scent.
Mate is known as Paraguay tea or Yerba Mate and is “the drink of the Gods” by natives. However, Mate is made from the South American evergreen shrub Ilex paraguayensis. The Shrub is a relative of the common Holly. Mate is indigenous to Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina.
Mate was used by natives for centuries as a sustaining beverage through drought and famine. Jesuit missionaries first realized the economic potential of this beverage and started plantations back in the mid-1600s.
Similarly, Yerba Mate is traditionally drunk from a gourd or Mate and sipped through a straw known as a bombilla. It is said, “When one offers mate, one offers friendship.”
Local Tea Company offers three different yerba mates; check out our Roasted Mate and Organic Green Yerba Mate.
Our Sweet Orange Yerba Mate blends steamed green mate leaves and fire-roasted mate. We add orange peel and anise for a vibrant and healthy alternative to coffee.
Unlike most herbals, Mate has caffeine but is rich in Vitamin C, nutrients, and antioxidants. Above all, you will get a relaxed but clarifying alertness, perfect for morning consumption.
Mate relieves headaches (or hangovers) and is known as an appetite suppressant.
20 to 25 cups of tea can be made from 2 oz of loose-leaf tea.
Brew some Sweet Orange Yerba Mate today and drink in the history of this amazing tea.
We also suggest steeping our Sweet Orange Yerba Mate multiple times for even more cups of great tea.
Brewing Instructions for Sweet Orange Yerba Mate Tea
Steep this tea multiple times. Loose-leaf teas have far more flavor than traditional tea bags due to their superior quality and freshness. Tea strength is a personal decision. Please experiment to determine your preferences.
Use boiling water and allow your tea to steep as little as 3 minutes or as much as 10 minutes. For each of the following steeps, use boiling water and double the steep time; if you do not want to drink all the tea, store it in the fridge for wonderful iced tea.
Store in a dry place.
